Social and Political History of the Jews in Poland 1919-1939;Jews on Average Were Better Off Than Poles on Average. The Staggering Extent of Jewish Economic Hegemony Over Poland.

Monday, August 20, 2018
Jewish scholar Joseph Marcus eschews the knee-jerk anti-Polish generalizations that typify material on this subject in favor of a thorough examination of the Jewish situation prior to Polish independence (1870-1918) and in pre-WWII Poland (1918-1939).

We frequently hear that Poland's Jews were "desperately poor." This is, at best, a half-truth. In addition, poor relative to whom? Although there was wide disparity between rich and poor Jews, the overall Jewish per capita income was more than 40% greater than that of Poles (in 1929; p. 41). >>more...

Nazi Collaborators on Trial During the Cold War: Viktors ARājs and the Latvian Auxiliary Security Police;Richards Plavnieks

Monday, August 20, 2018
Author Plavnieks describes the sympathy Americans felt for Latvians [and, of course, other Eastern Europeans] before the 1970s as victims of Communism, and as captive nations. And then came détente. Plavnieks continues, “Simultaneously, consciousness of the Holocaust and sympathy for its Jewish victims steadily heightened. Thus, after the 1960s, the balance, in the arena of popular consciousness, tipped firmly against American Latvians. They lost their status as a favored category of victims of Communism; had that special victim status actually supplanted by Jews; and were seen as out of step and behind the times in their obsessive anti-Soviet attitudes.” (p. 232). >>more...

Law and Holocaust by Bazyler:Genocide Recognition Inequality. So-Called Hate Crimes Legislation. Ongoing German Culpability For WWII Crimes Against Poles

Thursday, June 21, 2018
This work is densely packed with interesting information. One learns, for example, the fact that the Germans (Nazis) stole 600,000 paintings and sculptures, representing about 20% of all art in Europe. 100,000 pieces remain missing. (p. 276). This book reviews the Nuremberg Trials, and then elaborates on many little-known court cases. I mention a few salient ones.

Bazyler and Jarvis write, “Because the war-time totals are merely estimates and different sources use different figures, it has become commonplace to say that six million Jews (of whom 25% were children) perished in ‘the Holocaust’ (from the Greek words ‘whole’ and ‘burnt’). Likewise, because some commentators use the term ‘Holocaust’ to refer to all of the Nazis’ victims (an estimated 20 million people), Jews (and others) often instead refer to the ‘Shoah,’ the Hebrew word for ‘calamity’.” (p. 4). >>more...

The SS death commando went in 1941 from town to town, acting according to the same pattern. At the end of June Wizna, July 5 Wąsosz, July 7 Radziłów, July 10 Jedwabne, later in August Łomża, about August 22 Tykocin, September 4 Rutki. Hermann Schaper connects them all. >>more...

Call us to witness, HAnia W.;American Eyewitness German-Occupied Poland. No Dichotomy: Poles and Jews. Myths on Looting, Black Market, Blue Police,

Saturday, May 26, 2018
Author Gaither Warfield was the pastor of a Methodist Church in Poland, and Hania was his wife. Both were American citizens. The Warfields were trapped in Poland because of the German-Soviet aggression against Poland that had begun WWII. After Hitler declared war on the USA in the wake of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the Warfields were arrested by the German authorities. (pp. 338-339). They were eventually released in a swap of American and German nationals. (p. 400). The Warfield's eyewitness accounts end about mid-1942. >>more...
