The Rise of Modern Yiddish Culture (Pitt Russian East European

Thursday, October 9, 2014
In my review, I do not limit my analysis to the book itself. I extend the content to broader issues of lasting relevance.

This work goes beyond Yiddishist developments. It contains an assortment of interesting information. For instance, Chaim Zhitlovsky, and other cultural radicals like him, rejected Purim as a chauvinistic celebration of Jewish vengeance. (p. 109). On another subject, Fishman provides interesting detail on the origins of YIVO, and the heroic efforts to save part of its archives from the German Nazis >>more...

Soviet Jews as Victimizers and Victims of Communism

Sunday, August 17, 2014
This review is from: The Jews of the Soviet Union: The History of a National Minority (Cambridge Russian, Soviet and Post-Soviet Studies) (Paperback) Israeli Jewish author Benjamin Pinkus begins with a history of Jews in Russia. Instead of solely blaming Christianity for the negative aspects of Jewish-Christian relations, he also points to the role of Jewish-Christian disputations, Jewish proselytism, and Judaizing sects. (pp. 4-5). As for the 1881-1906 pogroms in tsarist Russia, Pinkus believes that many of them occurred on too geographic an organized scale to be without some degree of government influence behind them. (pp. 28-31). >>more...

Thursday, August 14, 2014
After the news of Tuchaczewskis’ troops success in July 1920, Lenin decided to start the process of creating a revolutionary power in the Poland. Convinced about the weakness of the Communist Polish workers ' Party, he has accepted the concept of a group of Polish Communists with Joseph Unszlicht at the helm, who offered to create a temporary Revolutionary Committee in Poland on the basis of the Red Army. At the same time, it was decided to mobilize more than 5,000 Polish Communists and flip them on the Western front line, 900 of whom  were directed to  the political apparatus of the Red Army, and the rest  it was supposed to be used to cast the revolutionary committees’ network administration. >>more...

Jedwabne - Policy apologies and remorse - slander payment for heroism,

Monday, August 11, 2014
Today, when we are trying to get to the truth about the tragedy in Jedwabne, which happened sixty years ago, many of us feel a deep resentment watching fake apologies and remorse policy used by people who try to write a new version of Polish history. This is probably the deepest bitterness of my generation - veterans of the Nazi and Soviet terror .
It is most appropriate that Mr. Miller, Polish prime minister, spoke with reverence the suffering of the Jews in Poland and other countries. however is in the highest degree improper assignment of the Polish nation Jedwabne, so clean guilty of this crime, the Germans - the Nazis and the the bleach while crimes committed by communists in Poland.
